3 key factors to improve your SEO
Google constantly strives to deliver the best, most relevant websites to people using the search engine – which means you need to keep on your toes to ensure you are making the most of the SEO opportunities available to you.
In the latest changes the search engine giant has placed even more emphasis on content – if you’re not creating original, high quality, relevant content you’re going to lose out. Try focussing on this and these 3 key factors to improve your SEO and Google page ranking – on-page SEO, link building and social media. Here are a few quick tips to help you out.
On-page SEO
We’ve talked before about how to use on-page SEO to improve your web ranking, and now it’s more important than ever to get it right. The secret is to focus on one very relevant keyword (or phrase) and incorporate that into the right places on every page and blog post, including the page URL, the title, the meta information, the content and even the image file name. You’ll also benefit through highlighting the keyword in bold and italic text.
Link Building
Link building has always been one of the key factors to improve your SEO and it is still important now. However, the big change is in the anchor text you use to link back to your website. Long ago it was enough to use “click here” or “read more” to direct people to your website. Then webmasters got clever and started using keywords as the anchor text, which gained more weight with Google’s ranking algorithm. Google now looks for variety in the kind of link you use. If all your backlinks include the same keyword you’re going to lose out so try using variations – even the old “click here” is worth using now and then!
Social Media
Backlinks used to indicate your site had authority but Google has a new way of measuring this now – social media. Every time someone mentions you, or links to your website, or retweets your blog post, hits the like or share button, it’s a sign of authority in your site. If you’re not using social media your website’s ranking is going to be affected … At the very least make sure you have accounts set up and active, links to them on your website and social share buttons on every page and post.
